Sherpa of Souls Moves to Professionalize with Hire of 1st Staffer

Updated: May 17, 2023

We are thrilled to announce that Leila Pellegrino has accepted our offer to join the Sherpa of Souls (SOS) family, as an Outdoor Guide and Operational Assistant. “I was impressed with Leila’s passion for the outdoors and entrepreneurial spirit immediately" said SOS Founder and CEO Peter Alternative. While we were not planning on adding staff right away, Leila was such a perfect fit for SOS that we went for it, and she accepted, explained Alternative.

Leila has a wonderful mix of administrative and in-the-field training and experience. More specifically, Leila graduated with honors from Warren Wilson College in Asheville, NC, with a degree in Outdoor Leadership. While at WWC, she completed a 70-day Instructor Development Course through the North Carolina Outward Bound School. Leila is also a Registered Maine Whitewater Guide, licensed to lead trips on Maine’s Class 4 and 5 rivers; the Kennebec, Dead, and Penobscot. Leila’s experience guiding in the backcountry and on some of Maine’s most challenging rivers will help us more rapidly expand our retreat programming to take advantage of her skill sets. Leila is also a certified Wilderness First Responder with advanced life saving training.

Leila’s responsibilities will range from in-the-field guide work to operational support as SOS builds out all of the necessary infrastructure to deliver safe and compelling wilderness-based programming. Please help us welcome this talented young woman to SOS.
